How do I get a car key replaced or cut?
Your Citroën dealer is the best person to help you through the process of getting a new key cut or keys replaced. Modern vehicle keys have special cut designs and often also contain programmable transponders which ensure your remote key works for your car.
There are a few steps in the process for a key to be cut or replaced:
• Security Identification: The dealership needs to ensure that they only provide a new key for you, the cars rightful owner. So you may need to provide some identification but it’s to make sure your car is not accessed by someone who shouldn’t.
• Key Code: On your behalf, the dealership then access the special code for your key from the Citroën factory in France
• Cutting: The dealership can coordinate key cutting for you, or you can request the dealership to order you a new key from the factory already cut.
• Programming: Lastly, the remote control transponder unit in the key needs to be linked to your specific car. Only the dealership has the special tools required to do that.
